The last counted bid for this artwork will end of July 31st at Midnight Central Standard Time USA. Now, about the Spoonbill: You can read about the Spoonbill’s story here. The story is written by Andrea Web. We have collaborated for a little while now and this is our 4th subject. Andrea is a wildlife photographer. She will share with me high definition photography to draw from. We both have a love for the details found in nature from afar, but especially up close. Like the Ginkgo, the Spoonbill has had to be increasingly resilient over the years.

Why do I give my work away? And why for charitable donations to help the fight against cancer?

It’s simple. I’ve experienced great loss.

And I want a future for my kids that are better equipped to deal with this disease than what my Mom experienced.

Back in 1999, I lost my Mom to Pancreatic cancer. I moved home from my last semester as a graduate student where I was studying for my Masters of Fine Arts to help take care of her along with my Dad and family. When she was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer it had already progressed to stage 4 which at the time meant the end was near. What a helpless feeling we were all left with. I didn’t pause and sulk however. She needed me to be strong. I was one of the people in her life who knew that I would spring into action and make her comfortable and not lonely for however much time we had left. And I certainly didn’t want to let her down or waste the opportunity to spend life, her life, by her side. Living with a loved one, especially your Mom, who is in an advanced stage of cancer has a profound effect on you. Health, lifestyle, and the need to help others become active, not a consideration. In order to make major progress, we need everyone to get involved. And we have seen this help grow. And with it, the treatments and care and research grow with it.

Some progress has been made over the years on identifying Pancreatic cancer, but not enough. Organizations like Pedal The Cause is key to helping us raise awareness and fundraise to find a cure. Pedal The Cause donates 100% of the funds raised to local organizations. That's a direct impact on those around us who need help. Turn your passion for cycling, or your need to good, into helping someone survive cancer.

Ride, Volunteer or donate. Don't wait until it's this close to home to feel the need to get involved. Because 1 in 3 is too many.
