2023 Wood Cut Ink Drawings
I’ve been working on this wood cut theme for many years. This theme contains many representational symbols from my life. Objects are arranged on cut wood. This wood represents the hard work in life. Drawn from my father, I would spend weekends in the fall and winter with my twin brother helping Dad cut, split and stack wood after bringing it home from various forests and fields. On top of the cut wood are objects drawn from pressed flowers and leaves. During the spring, summer and fall, I would go on adventures with my mom and she collected many flowers and leaves to bring home and press. Later she would arrange a beautiful composition with these pressed objects over found fabric and inside found frames. I only have a few of these left as she would make them for family and friends. These childhood actives form the basis for these drawings. I’m closing in on 10. Below are the ones I created in 2023.
