Inspired by my fine art ink drawings and ceramic collaboration with my wife Jodi. The cardinal theme started when I began keeping a true sketchbook journal for my ink drawing. At the time, my family had just moved back to Missouri from a 5 year stay in Colorado where we started our careers and family. Once my daughter turned 1 we realized we needed to be around family, not only to get to know them and be close but to have support. We were very fortunate that my father-in-law granted us a few acres to build a house on and our combined family did just that. While we were building over those 9 months I would sit in my mother-in-law’s dinning room sitting by the box window drawing cardinals, woodpeckers, blue jays, robin and titmouse birds. Practicing ink. First in color. When we moved into our home, I continued one. I became more of a purist. Studying line art in single black ink. In my fine art you will see this evolution fully realized. Here, I’m getting back to color and my love of that first study of the cardinal in the dining room so many years ago.
