2023 Sketchbook Entries

When I’m out in the world and want to capture ideas, people, places or things, I love to do quick blind contour drawings in my journal. It helps me study the subject without worrying too much about the artistic execution. It’s a freeing process.. I can fill up a sketchbook pretty quickly. Some subjects I come back to later and do another entry, this time with color and notes. Below is a mix of some journal entries from 2023 actives and observations. I also take my watercolor set when I can’t travel with ink and do some other types of studies in thinking through larger pieces. One of the most different things I did was a watercolor and ink map of the island of Aruba and marked all the great things me and my family explored while there. This illustration is in the guestbook left behind at the place we stayed.
